Think Happy, Be Happy

“Folks are usually about as happy as they make their minds up to be”

Abraham Lincoln

If you want to be physically fit you work out–run, lift weights, go to yoga classes ect.  You keep your body in shape through deliberate, concentrated and repeated effort.  If you stop being physically active entropy and flab takes over your body.

The same applies to your emotional fitness.  If you let your mind and emotions just be then negativity, irritability and gloom often takes over.  If you want to be happy, be in a good mood, have a sense of well-being and peace you should actively train your mind the same deliberate and concentrated way as you train your body.

It is no secret that when you think happy thoughts you feel happy.  You should seek positive emotional states and strengthen them through repetition.  However, it is often easier said than done finding those positive emotional states.  This is where positive affirmations come in.

Affirmations are statements of how you want to feel.   They can be very simple–“I am happy, I am wealthy, I am hot…” or “I am good, I am calm, I am peaceful, I am loved…”  At the moment of saying or writing them you may not totally “own” the description, you may feel like an impostor.  But after few times of repetition you start warming up to the ideas of what you are affirming for yourself.

It is like positive brain washing.  And if you believe something for yourself then you project it into your life. Think happy thoughts and you will feel happy. Write them down, post them around your home, put those happy notes in your wallet as a constant positive presence in your life.  Seeing those posts repeatedly few times a day will build the neuro-circuits for happiness.  The more you practice the easier it would be for you to switch into happy mode.  Think happy, be happy.

Fit emotional states just as fit bodies are created by deliberate choice, thoughtfulness, training and repetition. So,

1.  Think happy thoughts deliberately–it’s like an emotional well-being work-out

2.   Create affirmations for happiness and well-being in your life

3.  Practice what you affirm for yourself to strengthen the happy state of being
